The official response to Giuffre’s claims has been delivered to a New York court. Giuffre accuses the Duke of York of repeatedly abusing her when she was under eighteen. The son of Queen Elizabeth has previously denied this, including in a much-discussed interview with British broadcaster BBC in 2019.

Andrew has therefore not chosen to reach a settlement with Giuffre. Giuffre felt little for that anyway, her lawyer said earlier this month. “It is important to her that this case is resolved in a way that brings justice to her and other victims. A financial settlement doesn’t seem like something she’s interested in.”
Prince Andrew also had the option to ignore the case completely, but that would mean he would automatically lose the case. His absence can then be seen as an admission of guilt.
