“I read the book five years ago,” says Dunselman. “I fell like a block. It is so poetic and beautiful. The characters are moving and funny. Really raw humor that I love. It is just like theater. There is a lot of dialogue in it. It is very close. It lends itself very much to a theater piece. “

The book is about three children who grow up in the countryside. But it doesn’t come from a really normal upbringing. They are neglected, drinking and smoking. The three are looking for a home together. In the meantime, the oldest two fall in love with each other.

It means that there are three main actors, where Dunselman was the lead actress the previous three performances. Also new is that the performances in Meppel are held directly in the main hall.

“Things don’t come naturally. We have always played in the angel tray, the small room upstairs, but this book is so romantic and full of pretension. We thought that this should be played in this fantastic beautiful large room. That fits perfectly.”

Later this year a theater production from Mrs. Ogterop will follow. That’s because Schouwburg Ogterop, the home of the group, stands for a major renovation. This season is the last programmed season, then the preparations for the million renovation begin. The reopening of the theater is planned in 2028.

“We have come up with something smart. We are now doing two in a row. On November 15 we will do the next show. Then there is no programming, but we can still end up in the theater. The following year we will go on tour with that performance We will also see something else.

Thursday and Friday is the try-out in Schouwburg Ogterop. Saturday and Sunday is the premiere. The performance can be viewed up to and including 9 May. On May 9 it will be performed again in Meppel.
