Three housing associations Drenthe join forces to support Corporation Woonconcept in getting rid of backlogs in maintenance and sustainability. Around 2000 homes can be improved for 15 million euros in five years. It is the first time that housing associations voluntarily help each other in this way. Minister of Housing and Spatial Planning (VRO) Minister Mona Keijzer, on Wednesday in Meppel confirmed the agreements with the directors of Domesta, Actium, Woonservice and Woonconcept.
The minister is working on amending regulations to enable this method of project support for all corporations. Via project support, wealthy corporations can support a less wealthy corporation in the region. This is possible, for example, by taking over possession, making financial resources available or spreading building tasks. This allows homes to be built, maintained or made more sustainable for which there will be no money. Currently, this can only be imposed nationally, but with the change in the rule this can also be done voluntarily and regionally.
Minister Mona Keijzer: “These corporations show how things can be done differently: neighbors who help each other in difficult times. Their cooperation not only reinforces each other, but also underlines the important role that corporations play in offering affordable and good homes. Dutch corporations have a joint investment statement of more than 110 billion euros for construction, maintenance and sustainability of social rental homes.
2000 homes
Actium and Domesta both take over a new construction task of Woonconcept for a total of around 250 homes. Woonservice and Actium will exchange homes in the region. The three corporations also contribute 1 million euros annually to Housing Concept for five years. Thanks to this support, Housing Concept can improve and make a total of 2,000 homes faster and make it more sustainable.
The collaboration came about after intensive discussions with tenants, municipalities and supervisors. The Social Housing Guarantee Fund and the Housing Corporations Authority were also involved. The Drenthe corporations emphasize that it is about solidarity. The joint social task is central: ensuring that all tenants in the region can live well and affordably.
Change in line
Minister Keijzer likes to see this type of cooperation more often. That is why the Ministry of VRO is working on an adjustment of the Admitted Institutions Decree (BTIV), so that project support can be used more specifically. The internet consultation for the change in the BTIV has since been completed. The proposal for advice will soon go to the Council of State, after which the minister will present it to the House of Representatives.
