Schoof initially remained relatively under the radar, but once he crossed the finish line, the media focused on the avid runner. The Prime Minister described the more than twenty kilometers along the North Holland coast as ‘wonderful’. “It was tough, but tasty.”

Schoof has run the Egmond Half Marathon before, and is therefore very familiar with the intense course. And especially the end of it. “It’s always that last bit on the beach, and then up the dunes. I’ve walked it before, so I know what’s coming.”

Competition with colleagues

It didn’t take long for onlookers to recognize the Prime Minister, and that gave him wings. “That huge cheering makes you run faster.” When asked by the NH reporter whether he would like to have a competition with colleagues, he answers positively. “I think I have a good chance.”

It is not the first time that Schoof has participated in a running event. He was born in October spotted at the finish of the Amsterdam Marathon. He went there under an assumed name. It is not known whether this was also the case at the Egmond Half Marathon.
