On Wednesday 19 April, Prime Minister Rutte will pay a working visit to the Maasvlakte in Rotterdam and various locations in the North Sea. The theme of the visit is the energy transition, with wind, sun and green hydrogen playing a leading role.

The visit starts on the Maasvlakte at Gasunie’s LNG terminal. LNG is an important substitute for Russian gas and the liquid gas is imported and exported via this terminal. Subsequently, the Prime Minister will be given a tour of TenneT’s new high-voltage substation on the Maasvlakte. From this high-voltage substation, the green electricity generated by the offshore wind turbines is transported to households, businesses and neighboring countries.

The visit continues by ship. Prime Minister Rutte visits Neptune Energy’s Q13a-A platform in the North Sea. Green hydrogen will soon be produced here from seawater. The next stop is the recently completed offshore wind farm, built and owned by Vattenfall. The 120 wind turbines can provide 1.5 million households with green electricity.

During the boat trip, you will also sail past the so-called power sockets at sea. The wind farms are connected to a socket (platform) at sea. From these sockets, the generated electricity is brought ashore via cables at sea to the high-voltage substation.

During the working visit, Prime Minister Rutte will speak with employees of the various companies that are actively working on the energy transition and with the Dutch Sustainable Energy Association (NVDE).
