Preview Women’s Bundesliga: Hoffenheim welcomes Freiburg to the Baden derby

Status: 13.10.2022 3:10 p.m

After a successful international break, the fourth match day in the women’s Bundesliga will resume on Friday (October 14th, 2022).

Numerous national players were in demand with their home countries last weekend. Now the teams are returning to everyday league life and fighting for the next points on the fourth matchday. While Wolfsburg and Munich are about expanding their role as favourites, teams like Meppen and Bremen are already trying to play against relegation.

TSG Hoffenheim – SC Freiburg (Friday, October 14, 2022, 7:16 p.m.)

At the start of the fourth match day, TSG Hoffenheim welcomes SC Freiburg to the Baden derby in the Dietmar Hopp Stadium. The game promises to be a hard-fought duel, not just from a derby perspective. Both teams have already shown in the young season that they are to be reckoned with. However, both teams have already shown weaknesses that need to be minimized in the floodlight game on Friday evening.

Turbine Potsdam – VfL Wolfsburg (Saturday, October 15, 2022, 1:01 p.m.)

For Felicitas Rauch, the encounter with Turbine Potsdam on Saturday would have been a reunion with the ex-club. But now she has tested positive for Corona and is cancelled. Nevertheless, the table leader is the clear favorite in the away game in Potsdam. Because for the turbines, things are anything but smooth this season.

There was only one point for the traditional club so far. The statistics speak for the hosts, who have already won 27 times against Wolfsburg in 51 matches. But it is unlikely that the 28th victory will fall on this day. Potsdam still has to do without captain Noemi Gentile, who is recovering from a cruciate ligament rupture.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen – SV Meppen (Sunday, October 16, 2022, 1:01 p.m.)

After a strong performance against Hoffenheim two weeks ago, which was still not enough for a first point, promoted SV Meppen travels to Leverkusen on Sunday. There, the bottom of the Bundesliga meets the sixth in the table. There it was enough for a 2:2 draw two years ago. The game on Sunday also sees Meppen’s coach Carin Bakhuis again, who last worked as an assistant coach in Leverkusen.

Leverkusen recently had to work through a tough defeat at the hands of VfL Wolfsburg. Head coach Robert de Pauw therefore wishes his team had more courage. The B04 coach wants to appear hungry against Meppen. “We need immediate pressure on the opponent, on the ball and we can’t give Meppen any space.” He assesses the opponents as strong in duels and attests to good team cohesion.

Bayern Munich – 1. FC Köln (Sunday, October 16, 2022, 1:01 p.m.)

Looking at the table, the duel in Munich should be particularly exciting. The runners-up receive 1. FC Köln, who are lurking in fourth place and have made a good start to their second season in the 1. Bundesliga. However, the two games against Munich last season were clearly lost 6-0. Therefore, Cologne coach Sascha Glas is also realistic:

“Bayern have a world selection and, together with Wolfsburg, are the measure of all things in the league. We’re still a long way from these clubs, but we’ll do everything we can to create a surprise in Munich.”

As a coach, Glas has never won against FC Bayern – the only team in the league. But the Munich team will know how to prevent that this time, even if there was bad news during the week: Giulia Gwinn is out with a cruciate ligament tear. The 23-year-old contracted it while training with the national team. But the squad of head coach Alexander Straus is so large that he can compensate for this loss.

SGS Essen – Eintracht Frankfurt (Sunday, October 16, 2022, 4:01 p.m.)

Eintracht Frankfurt is the clear favorite going into the encounter at SGS Essen on Sunday afternoon. In third place in the table with seven points, Niko Arnautis’ team has already shown that the Adlerinnen will be a force to be reckoned with again this season. But in the last game against Bremen, Frankfurt missed a lot of chances and made the win unnecessarily exciting.

Eintracht Frankfurt missed many chances against Werder Bremen.

So far there has not been a defeat against SGS Essen in the Bundesliga. After the victory over Meppen, the SGS has at least three points in their account. Coach Markus Högner wants to use the power of the home crowd for the next points. Annalena Rieke is back in the game and Högner is hoping for Laureta Elmazi to play.

“With the fans behind us, we want to have a top attitude; fight from the first second. Frankfurt is of a different caliber. They are even less forgiving of mistakes than Freiburg.”

SV Werder Bremen – MSV Duisburg (Sunday, October 16, 2022, 4:01 p.m.)

In the 0: 4 against FC Bayern on the third day of the match, MSV Duisburg, as a promoted team, held out for a surprisingly long time. The zebras definitely don’t have to hide after this performance and can confidently travel to Bremen on Sunday. SV Werder expects MSV almost entirely from the bottom of the table.

Paula Flach wants to score against Bremen with MSV Duisburg.

Captain Lina Hausicke’s team is eleventh with just one point. The first three should finally fall against Duisburg on Sunday. It is of course important to be fully there from the first minute, says Hausicke. “MSV is a good climber and can survive in the league. We will definitely not make the mistake of underestimating our opponents.”
