While the Ski Jumping World Cup reaches its crowning conclusion with ski flying in Planica, it is still unclear who will take over from Stefan Horngacher as national coach in the DSV team. Numerous names are associated with DSV, one of them is Robert Hrgota. The Slovenian national coach has now commented on the rumors again.

In December 2020, Robert Hrgota took over as head coach of the Slovenian men’s ski jumping team from Gorazd Bertoncelj, who had resigned during the event. But the successful coach, who turned Domen Prevc into an almost invincible serial winner, is only under contract until the end of the season. What’s next for the 37-year-old?

This question was asked of the ex-jumper by the Slovenian newspaper “Delo” on the sidelines of the World Cup finals in Planica. “At the moment the focus is on sport; after the final in Planica we will take care of the bureaucratic matters,” replied Hrgota, but also added that the time together could continue.

Hrgota wants “an agreement as quickly as possible”

“We are in discussions and would like to reach an agreement as quickly as possible. There is a desire for a continuation of the cooperation on both sides,” emphasized the successful coach, who was recently considered a potential successor to Stefan Horngacher. The Austrian is resigning from his position as national coach of the DSV Adler at the end of the season.

“Around our competitions we usually talk about God and the world, and of course there are always various suggestions and offers,” he said when asked about the rumors about the DSV job, but also added: “Such conversations cannot be compared with serious negotiations. It seems important to me to bring the season to an end, after which we will look for a solution.”

German sports director Horst Hüttel announced on Saturday on “ZDF” that the search for a successor to Horngacher is on the home stretch. “There are still things that need to be discussed,” he said. “There is no time pressure, we prioritize seriousness and content,” the DSV official made clear and also revealed: “It won’t be long.”
