As long as a large part of the energy supply is based on gas, Germany is dependent on the whims of Vladimir Putin. The supply shouldn’t be at risk in the summer, but there’s no all-clear for the winter. The government should therefore already set the course for the second half of the year. This includes, for example, lowering the minimum temperatures in apartments, as required by the Federal Network Agency. Bonuses for companies that use less gas are also sensible instruments. In the medium term, however, only the accelerated expansion of renewable energies, which reduces dependence on gas, will help./yyzz/DP/stk
