“The declaration of intent by the Finns to join NATO as soon as possible once again makes Putin look like a bloody amateur strategist who has hopelessly miscalculated. With the invasion of Ukraine he achieved exactly the opposite of what he allegedly wanted: NATO is more present than ever on its doorstep. The accession of Finland and Sweden (…) immediately strengthens the defense capability of the alliance and thus its deterrent power. (…) (…) It is possible that the Kremlin will start the admission process with provocations of all kinds and of course accompanied by the well-known encirclement propaganda. But it cannot hide the truth: that it is Putin’s warlike imperialism that is now even allowing two ore-neutral countries to flee under the protective umbrella of NATO.”/al/DP/jha
