In terms of sport, FC Bayern and 1860 Munich have few points of contact in professional football. However, there are currently some tensions.

The dispute between the two Munich clubs is entering the next round. 1860 President Gernot Mang reacted clearly to a banner that was seen in the south curve during FC Bayern’s Bundesliga home game against SC Freiburg (6:2) on Saturday.

“Mang has to earn respect. You son of a bitch,” said the poster aimed at the 57-year-old.

On Sunday, Mang was asked about it by Magenta Sport before the Lions’ home game against Saarbrücken (2-0). His answer: “FC Bayern has insulted me personally. That’s far from respect. If you call me a son of a bitch, you’ve crossed a line. For me that has no level at all. I’d like to leave it at that.”

He added: “Taunting is a bit part of it between the two clubs, but it should be at a certain altitude, at a certain level. That’s not the way it should be. But I won’t take legal action against it. I’ll stand above that.”

The background to the conflict is an interview in which Mang accused Bayern President Herbert Hainer of a lack of respect. Hainer didn’t recognize him at an event and asked which club he worked for and what position he held.

Mang said: “I would say that out of respect you should know who you are dealing with. Everyone else knew that. That shows again: a little humility would do this club good.”

Hainer was surprised by the criticism on Sport1. “To be honest, I don’t understand it at all. I went and greeted him, but unfortunately I didn’t know him. I don’t think it’s disrespectful at all, I was friendly,” he explained a few days later.
