The heart of Pedro I, the Portuguese king’s son who declared independence in 1822 and became Emperor of Brazil, was given a place in the Lapa Monastery in Porto shortly after the man’s death in 1834. But from Tuesday it will be displayed in the Brazilian capital for two weeks before returning to Porto. Bolsonaro managed to do this after months of negotiations with Porto and the monastic authorities, and after forensic examinations had made it clear that the body part is capable of travel.
