Premier League, Tottenham beat 6-1 in Newcastle. West Ham poker

In the important match for the Champions League, Stellini tries the back four and after 21′ he is down 5-0. The Hammers win 4-0 at Bournemouth

Late night on Cristian Stellini’s Tottenham. They are also hard to find the words for one of the worst performances in the club’s recent history, moreover in a direct clash for the Champions League that could not have gone wrong. Newcastle appear to be one, if not two categories of difference with Spurs, who concede five goals in the first twenty-one minutes of the match without being able to put up a determined resistance. The Italian coach embarks on an experiment with a back four, with Perisic in the role of left-back, and to say that the team appears disoriented doesn’t even remotely give an idea. At St. James’ Park it ends 6-1, with the awareness that it could have been even worse. All easy for West Ham too, who strolled on the Bournemouth field winning 4-0.

NEWCASTLE 6-1 TOTTENHAM

Spurs’ nightmarish afternoon begins after just over a minute. Joelinton scampers in the area, Lloris rejects his shot but Murphy is ready to collect for the tap-in. In the 6th minute the Brazilian scored, author of a splendid control following Schar’s millimetric throw; in front of the goalkeeper he discards it and deposits it on the net. Three turns of the hands and the result needs to be updated again, thanks again to Murphy who surprises Lloris from twenty-five meters with a dry and angled shot. Kane has a good chance but closes his right foot too much and puts it wide (13′). Then comes Isak’s time, who first slips the goalkeeper onto Willock’s visionary ball with a precise diagonal in the 19th minute and then concedes an encore in the 21st minute, taking advantage of Longstaff’s suggestion to kick again to cross. Down 5-0, Stellini recognizes that the tactical variant he had devised should be set aside and inserts Sanchez to go back three behind. In the first half finale both Willock and Longstaff went close to scoring their sixth goal, narrowly missing the goal. Upon returning from the locker room, with Forster in place of Lloris, Kane has a proud reaction. He starts wide to the left, aims and jumps Schar, then finishes diagonally, to reduce the humiliation a bit (49′). Spurs seemed to be at least more confident, but in the 67th minute Newcastle scored again through substitute Wilson, who turned Almiron’s deflected shot past the goalkeeper. Gordon also has the chance to increase the gap, Forster avoids a worse deficit by opposing in low exit (78′).

BOURNEMOUTH 0-4 WEST HAM

Five minutes are enough for the Hammers to address the challenge: in Creswell’s corner, Antonio is left alone and free to come off undisturbed, to the advantage of the guests. Bournemouth didn’t have the time to reorganize themselves as they also doubled their lead, with Paquetà doing well to head off Coufal’s cross from the right (12′). O’Neil’s team shows the first signs of vision around half an hour, when Fabianski has to save first on Lerma and then on Solanke. In the 43rd minute, however, the match was already over: Rice pounced on a loose ball after a corner kick and unloaded it at the near post where Neto was unable to do anything. Solanke tries again in the second half, with a header that ends wide, while Neto stands out with a good save on Benrahma. It was the prelude to poker, which came down in spectacular fashion in the 72nd minute: West Ham restarted quickly after recovering the ball in midfield, Bowen wide to the right crossed for Fornals, who got up with a scorpion that caught the goalkeeper in the wrong time. Bournemouth weren’t even lucky, Solanke hit the post and Fabianski a little later got excited about Anthony late on.
