The market value update in the Premier League, in which all players are updated before the World Cup in Qatar, is a first. For the first time in the history of the Transfermarkt market values, which have been collected since 2004, the English league has the most valuable footballer in the world: Erling Haaland (22) has replaced Kylian Mbappé (23) (to the statistics). Faring even better than Manchester City’s Norwegians is Arsenal’s collective, who post the biggest gains in squad value, while struggling Liverpool’s 14 pros are down.
Haaland, who switched from BVB to Man City in the summer with a release clause for €60 million, increased his market value after a furious start from €150 million to €170 million, overtaking PSG’s Mbappé (€160 million) as the most valuable footballer. Only Ronaldinho Gaúcho (Barça), Lionel Messi (Barça), Cristiano Ronaldo (Real), Neymar (PSG) and Mbappé (PSG) have held this title since 2004 – now Haaland is joining them.

The third place in the league also goes to an Englishman, Bukayo Saka (21). Arsenal’s homegrown team jumps from €20m to €90m, as does attacking partner Gabriel Martinelli (+20m to €60m). Completing the Gunners trio of market value gainers is Gabriel Jesus (+10 to 75), who at 25 is a veteran on coach Mikel Arteta’s young offensive line. The league leaders increase the squad value by 83.5 million euros and rise to 749 million euros (at all Arsenal market values).
“While the young stars Saka and Martinelli acted with enormous consistency and were able to increase their productivity again, Gabriel Jesus finally has a regular place in the Premier League, which perhaps the best pressing striker in the league repays with strong performances and high scorer values,” said Busch.
Sancho biggest market value loser – minus for 14 Liverpool FC players
In terms of scoring, Jadon Sancho is still lagging behind expectations in his second season at Manchester United, so the winger, who had a maximum value of 130 million euros in BVB’s time, has his fifth minus since his transfer. The devaluation from 75 million to 60 million euros makes it the biggest loser in market value in the Premier League.

Sancho is one of twelve “Red Devils” who cannot maintain their market value. All in all, Erik ten Hag’s team has dropped by EUR 41.7 million to EUR 750.6 million in terms of squad value. The devaluation at Liverpool FC (€867 million) is even greater, with a minus of €58 million. The most notable players to have been cut are Mohamed Salah (-10 to 80), Andrew Robertson (-10 to 55), Fabinho (-5 to 55), Virgil van Dijk (-5 to 50) and Trent Alexander -Arnold (-10 to 70).
England expert Busch says of TAA: “Without an assist in the Premier League and mixed performances for a ailing Liverpool, which are also partly due to Jürgen Klopp’s risky system, Alexander-Arnold’s market value continues to fall. The England right-back is now on par with Chelsea’s Reece James, who can improve to 70m and has a good chance of overtaking TAA soon after returning from a knee injury.”

The Brighton & Hove Albion players are not active in these market value regions, but four “Seagulls” professionals were able to break the 30 million mark in the course of the update: left winger Leandro Trossard (+5 to 30), midfielder Alexis Mac Allister (+7 to 32), goalkeeper Robert Sánchez (+7 to 32) and 20-year-old midfielder Moisés Caicedo (+13 to 38).
Busch says: “Despite the departures of Marc Cucurella, Ives Bissouma and coach Graham Potter, Brighton continue to play attractive football and found their way back on track with a 4-1 win against Potter’s new club Chelsea. While Spain international goalkeeper Sánchez was loosely linked to the Blues in the summer – there was talk of a £50m transfer fee – other top players such as Mac Allister, Trossard and Caicedo are also traded at top clubs. The latter in particular has enormous potential and could continue to rise after a successful World Cup with Ecuador and a good start in 2023.”
