The extremely successful Guardiola era at Manchester City has officially been history since Sunday. The successful Spanish coach wants to take a break in the coming weeks and ignore the football business. However, an insider expects the coach to return soon – possibly in a similar role to Jürgen Klopp.
With his extraordinary tenure at Manchester City coming to an end, the question inevitably arises as to where and in what capacity Pep Guardiola will appear in the future.
According to his own statement, the 55-year-old would like to take a short break first. According to “The Sun” information, he is using this, among other things, to move back to Barcelona. He is said to have his eye on a £13.5 million villa there.
Does Pep Guardiola do like Jürgen Klopp?
And what about his professional future? According to insider Keith Wyness, former boss of Everton FC, this is still in professional football – but not in England.
In the “Inside Track” podcast, Wyness predicted the Spaniard would return soon. “From what I know and have observed, it will be very, very difficult for him to leave football alone. But he will probably still be happy to get a little break,” said the former official.
And where could Pep end up? “I would expect him to take on a position as national coach or a more technical role after his break. I’m thinking of a position as Head of Football or another project. That’s where I see him when he’s over his break,” explained Wyness, who believes Guardiola will follow a similar path to Jürgen Klopp, who also switched to an official role after leaving Liverpool FC.
It is also clear to the insider that Pep will be drawn back to his homeland. “I guess he’s going back to Spain for personal reasons. That’s what will happen,” says Wyness.
