At Nottingham Forest, the injury of a player triggered trouble between the coach and club owner. Now there are new details.

Taiwo Awoniyi had to undergo emergency operation after the game against Leicester City. The former Union Berlin attacker injured his stomach in the 2-2 of Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Several media unanimously report on the incident.

The 27-year-old had crashed into the post when he tried to reach a cross. According to reports, the severity of the injury was only found on Monday. There was therefore no danger to life.

Awoniyi had been substituted in the 83rd minute – shortly afterwards he injured himself. After the game there was a loud argument on the field between club owner Evangelos Marinakis and coach Nuno Espirito Santo.

Marinakis later commented on Instagram for the incident. The situation was created by frustration about the medical assessment of the player’s operational capacity. “We all-coaching staff, players, fans and me-were frustrated with the injury and the assessment of whether Taiwo can continue the game,” wrote the 57-year-old.

Sportily, Nottingham missed the jump to a Champions League place through the draw. The club has been winning for three games and is one point behind fifth place in two outstanding games. Forest has a starting place in the European competition – it is the first participation in three decades.
