The Netherlands will participate in the Expo 2025 world exhibition in Osaka from April 13 to October 13, 2025. The tender procedure for the design, construction, maintenance and completion of the Dutch pavilion and the visitor experience will start around September 14, 2022. Parties can submit their proposals to the Netherlands Enterprise Agency until November 13, 2022. 7.8 million euros (excl. VAT) has been reserved for the realization of the pavilion and the visitor experience.

Designing Future Society for Our Lives

Osaka expects to receive approximately 28 million business and private visitors during Expo 2025, of which approximately 90% of the visitors will be from Japan. The Expo organization indicates that an estimated 150 countries and 25 organizations will participate in the world exhibition.

The theme of Expo 2025 Osaka is ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives’ and will be about shaping a world where major crises around, for example, climate and health will determine the quality of life. The theme for the Dutch participation and the Dutch pavilion is currently being worked out.

Important trading partner

Japan is one of the largest economies in the world and an important trading partner for the Netherlands. In 2021, the Netherlands exported 4.3 billion euros worth of goods to Japan. The Netherlands is also an important investment country for Japan.

Opportunities for Dutch companies and knowledge institutions mainly lie in the fields of agriculture and horticulture, life sciences & health (tech), energy transition and sustainability and digitization/high tech.

Expo Dubai 2020

The previous Expo took place in Dubai earlier this year. The Netherlands can look back on a successful participation. Nearly 1 million visitors have been welcomed in the Dutch pavilion.

The concept ‘Uniting water, energy & food’ won more than 10 awards in sustainability, innovation and design, including the Expo BIE award for best architecture in the sustainability district.
