Powerless Ajax can forget the winter in the Champions League after historic defeat against Napoli

Ajax has received a terrible beating from Napoli in the Champions League. The Italians were too strong by no less than 6-1. For the team from Amsterdam it was the biggest European defeat ever in the history of the club. Due to the large defeat, it is virtually impossible that Ajax will still play in the CL after the winter break.

After just two minutes of football, the visitors became dangerous, but Giacomo Raspadori’s shot went just wide. Yet Ajax took the lead. Kenneth Taylor shot from close range against Mohammed Kudus and therefore the goal was awarded to the Ajax striker. Ajax could not enjoy the lead for long, because Raspadori headed in the equalizer in the 18th minute.

Italians very strong

In the lively first half, it was the visitors who took the lead. Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo headed in beautifully from a corner. Before halftime, the game seemed decided. Piotr Zielinski shot diagonally in after an Italian counterattack.

Lost match

The second half started disastrously for Ajax. Keeper Remko Pasveer didn’t look good and Raspadori made the second of the evening. The home team was not involved at all and Napoli completely rolled over the team from Amsterdam. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia made it 5-1 in the 62nd minute.

It all got even worse for Ajax. Captain Dusan Tadic received his second yellow card of the evening and was able to leave. For example, the team of trainer Alfred Schreuder had to play football with ten men for about 20 minutes. Simeone then made the 6-1 and so Ajax’s biggest Champions League defeat ever was a fact.
