During the night from Wednesday to Thursday, an intense rain zone will move northwards over the country from the south. The wind turns from east to south and increases to moderate to quite strong. It will be cloudy during the day on Thursday and there will be a few showers. The temperature is between 13 and 15 degrees and as far as wind is concerned, it is not too bad.
High chance of storm
During the second half of the afternoon it really gets stormy. The depression, which the French weather services have named Storm Benjamin, will then pass straight over the Netherlands and bring with it a significant wind field. This wind field moves northwards from the southwest across the country.
Code orange will apply in large parts of the Netherlands from 6 p.m. on Thursday due to heavy gusts of wind, starting in the southwest, the KNMI reports. In addition, flying objects and breaking branches can cause damage and danger.
The wind will turn from west to southwest on Thursday afternoon and will first increase on the Zeeland coast to strong to stormy, wind force 8. Very heavy wind gusts of more than 100 km/hour are possible. Just north of this wind field there is little wind at first. As the evening progresses, this wind field moves northward, eventually causing the rest of the country to experience stormy weather. The western and northwestern coastal areas in particular can expect heavy to very heavy wind gusts. There is also a chance of (heavy) gusts of wind inland.
A number of weather models hint at a wind force of 9, which means storm force. There is also a real chance that a storm will occur on Thursday evening. If a storm develops, it will be the third storm of the autumn and the fifth storm of the year.
It will also be quite stormy on Friday with the most wind in the north and northwest of the country. The temperature drops to about 11 degrees. In addition to a lot of wind, there is also a lot of rain: 20 to 40 millimeters will fall on a large scale until Friday.
