The power outage started last night around 3.40 pm, the Dutch Railways reports On her website. The problem is expected to be solved around 8.30 am. Travelers are advised to travel to Sloterdijk, Zuid or Lelylaan station and take a bus to Schiphol.
Due to the disruption there are also fewer trains between The Hague and Leiden and between Breda and Rotterdam.
Fire in cables
A spokesperson for the Dutch Railways tells NH Radio that the power outage was caused by fire in cables. The intention is that some trains will run again, but the consequences of the malfunction would remain ‘all day’.
According to the spokesperson, the malfunction is too great to use replacement transport. The advice is to travel with alternative transport.
Schiphol can be reached during strikes
In recent weeks, Schiphol was the only place where trains ran a few times. By order of the judge, Schiphol had to go during strikes of NS staff remain accessible. That happened four times.
For this week, Rijkswaterstaat advised travelers to work at home as much as possible or at least leave the car. Due to the closed A5 and partly deposited A4, a traffic infarction is expected if we do not adjust our travel behavior, warns the road manager.
