The station in Emmen suffered a power outage for much of the afternoon and evening today. The outage brought virtually all equipment at the station to a standstill. The systems worked again around 10:30 PM, but the cause of the hours-long power outage is not yet clear.

An Arriva spokesperson said that the lights at the station were off and the check-in and check-out posts were not working. Travelers could also not buy tickets at the station, the public address system did not work and the travel information boards were not available.

The power supply for the electric trains was not affected. So travelers could simply take the train. The fact that it was not possible to check in is no different. This is what the spokesperson for the transport company said. “Our employees were aware of this.”

ProRail maintains the systems at the station and sent technicians to the station. Not to fix the fault, but to ensure that the trains continued to run. The fault did affect the power supply of the safety systems along the track.

The power outage was resolved around 10:30 p.m. The cause is not yet clear. ProRail hopes to be able to provide more clarity about this tomorrow.

Grid operator Enexis has so far announced that the cause of the outage is not theirs.
