Russian attacks late Wednesday evening almost completely knocked out power supplies in the Dnipro and Zaporizhia Oblasts in southeastern Ukraine, the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy said.

Emergency teams are working all night to restore electricity and the disrupted water supply and heating. Hospitals and other critical locations in the affected areas are running on emergency power.

According to Governor Ivan Fedorov of Zaporizhia, the air raid siren could not be heard due to the power outage in parts of his region, meaning residents could not be warned in time of new attacks.

The attacks are part of a broader Russian campaign against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which has intensified in recent months. Since the beginning of winter, power stations, transformer stations and high-voltage lines have been repeatedly targeted by missile and drone attacks.
