“He never knew what was going on in his body. Dad accidentally ended up in hospital after a fall. There they discovered that he had metastatic cancer. Barely a few weeks later, last Sunday, we had to hand him over.” The daughters of Gilbert Monteyne (86), the famous potter who could be found at the Vismarkt in Bruges every weekend until the last moments, can hardly comprehend that their father is no longer there. “Every day I’m not on my turntable is a day wasted,” Gilbert once said.
