Potent team mate for Nico Müller

The LMP2 team Vector Sport is bulging instead of messing up: Before its first season in the World Endurance Championship (WEC), the new team is strengthening itself with the four-time ChampCar champion Sebastien Bourdais. This becomes a team-mate of Nico Müller.

This means that only one driver with a silver rating is missing from the new team of ex-Risi and Jota employee Gary Holland. The team will have to assert itself in a true shark tank, because the LMP2 2022 will be the most competitive class in WEC history. A number of teams will try to position themselves for future LMDh manufacturer engagements.

Bourdais is therefore also cautious: “It is difficult to say which expectations should be realistic in such a large and competitive LMP2 field. But it is a very exciting opportunity because everyone will be the same equipment [einen Oreca 07 mit Goodyear-Reifen] have available. “

“I’ll be working with some cool guys like Nico as team-mates and it’s a nice experience to be able to compete in the WEC,” added Bourdais, who will be 43 years old at the WEC season opener at Sebring.

The Frenchman, who has been competing in the IMSA SportsCar Championship as well as IndyCar since 2014, has now amassed numerous successes in endurance racing: overall winner of the 24 Hours of Daytona 2014 plus GTLM class victory in 2017, two overall victories at the 12 Hours of Sebring (2015 and 2021) , GTE-Pro class victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2016 and overall victory at the Petit Le Mans 2015.

Bourdais will focus more on long haul in 2022 after leaving IndyCars on a full-time basis. His primary commitment is for Chip Ganassi Racing in the DPi category in America. The WEC is now added.
