BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – The man arrested by the police in Berlin because of possible attack plans is in custody. The Berlin Public Prosecutor’s Office announced this in the evening. An investigating judge at the Tiergarten district court had previously issued and executed an arrest warrant. The investigation is ongoing, it said.
Police arrested the 22-year-old Syrian on Saturday. He is accused of preparing a serious state-endangering crime, said a spokesman for the Berlin public prosecutor’s office. It’s about planning a jihadist-motivated attack. Details about the possible location of the attack were not initially known.
According to the public prosecutor’s office, the man is said to have shared propaganda from the terrorist organization Islamic State several times on a social media platform. These are songs or anthems with a jihadist context, which are often published by the Islamic State itself with an invitation to share them. Jihadism refers to a radical form of Islamism./mkk/DP/he
