Portugal mourns the loss of Fernando Gomes

Portuguese football mourns the loss of Fernando Gomes. The former international striker, who scored 355 goals in 451 games and became a legend at FC Porto, has died aged 66. Gomes has been suffering from cancer for the past three years.

Gomes scored 13 goals in 47 games for Portugal. With Porto he won the 1987 European Cup. Twice (1983, 1985) he received the Golden Shoe for Europe’s top scorer.
