Porch door blown up in Diamantbuurt in Amsterdam

An explosion took place this morning in the Lutmastraat in the Diamantbuurt in Amsterdam-South. A porch door leading to a residence has blown up. The bang could have been heard as far as Amstelveen.

The explosion happened around 5:45 a.m. Several police cars, the fire brigade and an explosives expert from the police were called. The window of a restaurant next to the house was also broken.

“Despite the fact that several residents got the fright of their lives, no one was injured,” the police said. “An investigation was launched immediately to find out what was used to cause the explosion.”

They are looking for clues and talking to local residents. The police are also checking whether CCTV footage is available. It is not yet clear how many suspects are involved.

Residents of the Diamantbuurt rang the bell about a month ago because of nuisance and vandalism by loiterers.
