Pope Francis and Argentine President Milei reconcile during first meeting | Abroad

The relationship between the two was previously tense, when the ultraliberal Milei described the pope during the election campaign as a “fool” and “bastard” who promoted communism worldwide. But in the meantime he has already sent an invitation for a state visit. Pope Francis has not traveled to Argentina since the start of his pontificate in 2013.

The greeting was very warm: the Pope, who was in a wheelchair, and Milei grabbed each other’s shoulders. A private audience is scheduled for Monday. Milei will therefore meet with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and President Sergio Mattarella.
