Poorly started NEC reels in transfer-free Bas Dost | Transfertalk

Bas Dost still remains in the premier league. The 34-year-old striker, who was without a club after his departure from FC Utrecht, will be the new attack leader of NEC. The transfer-free Dost is being inspected today and signs for one season in Nijmegen.

Dost has to help coach Rogier Meijer’s team with the much needed goals. NEC has had a bad start to the new Eredivisie season with defeats against Excelsior (3-4) and Heracles (2-1). That disappointing start has caused a lot of unrest in De Goffert, where the dissatisfied supporters came to get a story from the players bus last Saturday.

With Dost, the club has now brought in a player who is a guarantee for goals. The former striker of Emmen, Heracles, Heerenveen, Wolfsburg, Sporting Portugal, Eintracht Frankfurt, Club Brugge and FC Utrecht was accurate 266 times in 531 duels as a professional.

The 18-time Oranje-international wants to take revenge in Nijmegen for a disappointing season at FC Utrecht. Dost did not reach more than nine goals in the premier league last year in Galgenwaard, partly due to injuries.

Dost would be the eleventh new player to be signed by NEC this summer. The club previously secured the services of Sontje Hansen, Mees Hoedemakers, Lars Olden Larsen, Bram Nuytinck, Youri Baas, Koki Ogawa, Rober Gonzalez, Mathias Ross, Brayann Pereira and Kodai Sano.
