The Italian spoke at a conference between Admo and the Emilia-Romagna region: “Mine was a miracle. I invite everyone to donate, lives can be saved. The Italians? The victory against Lithuania is an answer for everyone”
The presence of Achille Polonara at his Italy’s match in Tortona brought a smile to the entire basketball world, despite the Azzurri’s defeat against Iceland. The Dinamo Sassari winger connected this morning to the press conference organized by the Emilia-Romagna region and by Admo (Bone Marrow Donors Association) on donations, and recounted those feelings: “It was an emotional evening, unfortunately we didn’t get the result we expected. But at the moment the important things are different for me and having received so much affection was fundamental. I didn’t expect an ovation like that, I thank all the fans. A demonstration of closeness that gave me so much strength. The victory against Lithuania was a good signal, a response for everyone.”

An update also on his health conditions: “A month ago they almost gave me up for dead, due to a complication my life was at risk, luckily everything went well. It was almost a miracle and now things are improving, thanks to the therapies I’m undergoing.” Polonara underwent the marrow transplant on September 25: “I thank my donor, a 90% compatible American girl, because it is thanks to her that I am here. I invite everyone to donate because this way many lives can be saved.”
