Before Schreuder’s departure, Ajax had already planned to use Johnny Heitinga to transfer to the main force. The former defender is currently at the helm of Jong Ajax, but will now be an option to finish the season with the wandering team from Amsterdam. However, Heitinga has little experience at the highest level, something that Louis van Gaal does have. He said goodbye as a trainer last December, after he was killed with the Dutch national team in the quarterfinals of the World Cup in Qatar.

Frank de Boer and Peter Bosz were very successful in the past as head coaches of the team from Amsterdam. De Boer was still national coach of Orange in 2021, where he was fired, just like at Inter, Crystal Palace and Atlanta United. Bosz was fired last year after a disappointing performance at Olympique Lyon and was previously fired from Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen.

Old acquaintance Jaap Stam is also available, although the new trainer does not have to come from the Netherlands. There are also plenty of top trainers abroad who are currently without a job. Thomas Tuchel was fired from Chelsea last year, Luis Enrique was sacrificed to Spain after a mediocre World Cup and Joachim Löw has been waiting for a new challenge since his departure from Germany.
