BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – After the death of the Iranian head of state and religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, numerous people took to the streets in Germany. Among other things, they demonstrated for freedom in Iran in Berlin, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt.
According to police, at least 1,800 people gathered at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin on Sunday. 5,000 people registered for the “Freedom for Iran led by Prince Reza Pahlavi” event. There was dancing and celebrating, as a dpa reporter observed. Shouts like “Iran, Iran”, “Thank you USA”, “Thank you Trump” and “Thank you Bibi” could be heard. “Bibi” refers to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Israel and the USA attacked Iran on Saturday.
Around 5,000 people came together in Düsseldorf under the motto “Freedom for Iran”. Many participants, including exiled Iranians, reacted with cheers to the news of Khamenei’s death. There were shouts of “USA!”, and some demonstrators drank champagne. Many participants carried posters with pictures of Reza Pahlavi, son of the Shah of Persia, who was overthrown in 1979, and who has put himself in play as Iran’s interim leader. Others waved flags of Iran, Israel, Germany and the United States.
According to the police, a total of 750 people demonstrated in two demonstrations in Frankfurt. Activist Nasrin Jalali said there: “Today we celebrate the death of the greatest dictator in the world, Khamenei.”/skc/DP/he
