A police officer shot a man (31) with his service weapon in Zülpich near Bonn on Monday afternoon.

According to the police, a witness had called the officers for help because the man had tried to gain entry to his parents’ house. Two patrol cars then drove to the address.

There, according to the officials, the man pulled out a knife and attacked the police officers. “An officer then fired a shot at the attacker from his service weapon,” the investigators said in the afternoon. The 31-year-old died on the spot.

The Bonn police and public prosecutor’s office have taken over the investigation for reasons of neutrality.

BILD found out: The parents themselves may have called for help because they didn’t want their son to come into the house.

Residents: “Actually, it’s always quiet here”

A local resident said he had never heard of any problems in the family. “It’s actually always very quiet here in the streets.”

When the shot was fired, he first thought of a hunter in the nearby forest. “Until you saw all the police.”

The relatives of the deceased and the police officers receive psychological care. The man’s body is to be autopsied.
