In recent months, the number of transmigrant crossings in small boats from the Belgian coast has increased sharply. According to Governor Carl Decaluwé, more boats left our coast in April than from the French coast.

With the nice weather in prospect, the police are therefore extra vigilant this weekend. Additional manpower is also being mobilized to better monitor weaker zones to avoid crossings.

Beach lifeguards previously received an information session about the problem. They learned which authorities to contact when a boat is seen at sea or when nautical material is found.

During the consultation, an aerial camera screen was also advocated. The police want to keep a better eye on the coast. “The federal police will go to Brussels on Monday with the plan to ask for a budget. The local police zones have already indicated that they want to help financially,” says Decaluwé.
