The serious traffic accident in Nigeria, in which former boxing world champion Anthony Joshua was involved and as a result of which two members of his team died, is currently being intensively investigated by the local authorities. A senior official issued a new statement on the accident on Tuesday.
What caused the serious car accident in Nigeria in which two members of boxing superstar Anthony Joshua’s team died and the Brit himself was injured? The local authorities are currently investigating this question at full speed.
Police Chief Babatunde Akinbiyi said in a statement on Tuesday that excessive speed alone was not the reason, but was the trigger.
He and his team are currently assuming that the excessive speed caused a tire on the vehicle involved in the accident to burst, said Akinbiyi. After the tire burst, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which then crashed into a truck parked on the side of the road.
Joshua condition is stable
Kevin Ayodele and Sina Ghami died in the collision. Joshua lost consciousness after the impact, but only suffered minor injuries.
The 36-year-old is currently in hospital. Local authorities said he was in stable condition.
Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also commented on the accident. “I spoke to AJ to personally express my condolences on the death of his two close associates Kevin Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami,” he wrote on the X platform. “I wished him a full and speedy recovery and prayed with him.”
The fact that Joshua himself was not seriously injured was apparently due to chance. The boxing star was reportedly sitting in the back seat behind the driver’s seat. The footage published online suggests that the car hit the truck on the passenger side.
