Police Ostend makes one of the largest cocaine catches in years

The detectives have been investigating someone suspected of dealing drugs for some time. During two house searches in the Mariakerke district, the police found a total of no less than 2.87 kilograms of cocaine and another more than 42,000 euros in cash.

This is one of the largest cocaine seizures in recent years in Ostend, the street value is estimated at roughly 140,000 euros. At the start of the first house search, the police charged four men, two of whom (25 and 32 years old) could eventually be linked to the earlier investigation. In the meantime, the public prosecutor’s office decided to arrest both of them and to bring them before the investigating judge, who then arrested them.

“Strong Performance”

“This drug bust is significant,” emphasizes Chief Constable Philip Caestecker. “The fight against organized drug trafficking remains a spearhead of our police services. Behind the scenes, a group of passionate detectives are working very hard, with the support of other services of the Ostend Police. However, the strong result of this recent investigation does not cause a hurray: we remain focused and fight drug trafficking with all possible means.”

“Tough action against drug dealers is an important point in the administrative agreement. With results like these, we hit them where it hurts,” says mayor Bart Tommelein.
