Police open a hunt for traffic assholes: videos can help

Traffic drivers ask to be picked up and tackled. This is stated by the police on Monday evening in the Bureau Brabant investigation programme. But because it is not easy to catch antisocial road users, the public is asked to cooperate.

Videos of dangerous traffic antics often appear on social media. Even life-threatening sometimes. Think of the motorcyclists who drove from Breda to Rotterdam in 11 minutes. Their behavior was without major consequences, no accidents happened. But it can also go wrong, such as a few years ago when two people were killed in a street race in Made.

Traffic rules are ignored
Bureau Brabant refers to this and makes it clear with films what the risks are that traffic assholes take and the dangers they cause. In the broadcast, a number of videos show how road abusers, with a police car on their heels, reach speeds between 180 and 200 kilometers per hour.

Tailgating and overtaking left and right while tearing on the highway, that also passes. The police cannot afford it, as they also find it unacceptable that traffic assholes in built-up areas also often flout rules.

The police are fine with people filming this, but they also have some caveats. If you are behind the wheel, do not make recordings yourself, have a co-driver do that or turn on a dashboard camera. And no matter how spectacular: do not share the video on social media, but offer it to the police. That can also be done anonymously. In this way, among other things, the police want to put a lot of effort into catching ‘traffic thugs’.
