With the use of water cannons, the police in Magdeburg ended a celebration of drunk football fans who celebrated 1. FC’s promotion to the second division with lots of pyrotechnics on Sunday. After fireworks were repeatedly set off on Hasselbachplatz near the train station, a decision was made to use the water cannon, a police spokesman said in the evening. The meeting with several hundred people was dissolved in this way. The spokesman was initially unable to say to what extent crimes had been committed and whether fans were arrested.
