Now the Berlin Senate and the police are threatening the climate stickers of the “last generation” with fines!

Anyone who repeatedly gets stuck should pay a so-called penalty payment of 2,000 euros, as reported by Die Welt on Wednesday, citing the Senate Department of the Interior.

The regulation has been in effect since the end of November. Twelve blockers have already been threatened with fines. One of those affected was stuck on the street again. The police then imposed the previously threatened fine.

So far, the police have threatened fines after those affected have been found sticking eight times.

A fine can be imposed by authorities to enforce certain administrative acts. The legal basis is also the Berlin Demonstrations Act, according to which demonstrations can be restricted if this “immediately endangers” public safety.

Berlin’s Senator for the Interior, Iris Spranger (SPD), told the “Welt” that the police and the interior administration were “using all legal means” with regard to the blockades. Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges, but does not justify criminal offenses or the creation of dangerous situations. A spokesman for Spranger emphasized that it was not about a blanket measure, but about “targeted action against those who persistently and ruthlessly violate the rights of others”.

The police had already charged many blockers for the costs of the police operations and asked for 241 euros. The group “Last Generation” started fundraising and, according to their own statements, had collected 410,000 euros by mid-December.
