Police close home in Hoorn three months after finding 189 cannabis plants

Mayor Jan Nieuwenburg of the municipality of Hoorn closed a drug house on the Messing this afternoon. 189 cannabis plants were found in the building. This involved professional and commercial cultivation.

In addition to the plants, items for a hemp nursery were found in the house in Hoorn. There was also a risk of fire due to the illegal tapping of electricity. Although the hemp goods were already found on March 23, 2023, the house has been sealed today by the mayor of Hoorn. This is done for a period of three months. The police dismantled the nursery and destroyed the cannabis.

Safe living environment

The Opium Act and the municipal Damocles policy were used to close the drug house. “I want a safe living environment for all our residents,” said mayor Jan Nieuwenburg. “That means that I will enforce firmly if I find that a property is being used as a drug property. By closing the location, I break through the reputation of the property as a drug property and remove a location where criminal activities take place.”

Eye thorn

Drug houses in the municipality of Hoorn and the rest of West Friesland have been closed frequently in recent years. It is a thorn in the side of the seven municipalities, and they use a joint approach to combat, for example, cannabis cultivation in the region.

Drug houses, among other things, have been closed in recent months on the pergola and with the Mercury Court. Here too there was professional and commercial cultivation, with hundreds of plants that had to be destroyed.
