Two more men have been arrested as part of the investigation into the murder of Lostprophets singer and convicted child molester Ian Watkins.
West Yorkshire Police announced on October 21, 2025 that a 23-year-old and a 39-year-old were arrested at HMP Wakefield Prison on October 11.
Both are in police custody and are being questioned. After questioning, they will be released on bail and taken back to prison while investigations continue, police said.
There are now four people involved in the murder. Last week, two prisoners, 25-year-old Rashid Gedel and 43-year-old Samuel Dodsworth, were charged with murder in connection with the case. They are in custody awaiting trial.
Family will be kept updated
Lead investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle of the Homicide and Major Investigations Team, said in a press release: “The extensive investigation into the murder of Ian Watkins is ongoing and these arrests are part of that. Ian Watkins’ family will be kept updated as the investigation progresses. However, we do not anticipate any new ones at this time Developments.”
The Lostprophets singer, who was convicted of child abuse, was stabbed to death on October 11th in HMP Wakefield prison in West Yorkshire, England.
As The Sun reported, Watkins died immediately at the scene. “Watkins was killed in the most brutal manner possible – and the attack was shocking, even by prison standards,” the newspaper quoted a prison source as saying.
According to the paper, Watkins was not in solitary confinement at HMP Wakefield, also known as Monster Mansion, but in the general corrections department. He is said to have regularly paid extortion money to other inmates to protect himself from attacks – according to “The Sun” including to the perpetrators, who probably decided to carry out the attack despite the payments.
Ex-girlfriend is relieved
The child molester’s ex-girlfriend, Joanne Mjadzelics, who according to “RTL” played a key role in uncovering the singer’s crimes, expressed relief at his death. “This is a big shock, but I’m surprised it hasn’t happened sooner. I’ve been waiting for this call,” she told Britain’s Daily Mail. “He has been a target since his first day in prison.”
She was constantly afraid that her ex-boyfriend would be released and take revenge on her. “So now I’m relieved,” she continued: “After everything he’s done, I’ve wanted him to die for a long time. I’m relieved, I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.” She is sure that the victims’ families are also relieved: “He’s gone, and they will be just as relieved as I am. Maybe a new chapter in my life will now begin.”
13 cases of sexual abuse of children – including a baby
Watkins, 48, was sentenced to 29 years in prison in 2013 on 13 counts of child sexual abuse. As “RTL” reported, he had, among other things, confessed to attempting to rape an eleven-month-old baby. He also abused several children under the age of 13.
