The incident happened at the end of May, but the police shared recognizable images of the perpetrator last week. Various tips were then received. The man was arrested on the street in Amsterdam-West on Tuesday. He admitted to being involved in the assault on the woman and was arrested.
Woman (82) does not want fare evaders to slip through public transport gates, is mercilessly beaten up
The woman wanted to take the metro from Ganzenhoef station, in Zuidoost, to the Center. She felt that a man wanted to go through the gate with her and stood still to prevent that. He then pushed her, after which she gave him a small push back. The man then breaks through the gate and gives the elderly lady a few blows.
He calmly takes the escalators to the platform, while she lies helpless on the ground. She calls for help, but no one is there, so she gets up and finally takes the subway into the city. At Central Station she accosts a GVB employee and loses consciousness.
