Warsaw (dpa-AfX)-Poland has rejected the proposal of Federal Minister of the Interior Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) to organize joint checks on the German-Polish border. “I don’t think it is a good idea at the moment to carry out these controls together, since we have to manage the problem of illegal immigration here at the border,” Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak said in the interview of the news agencies dpa, PAP, AFP and BNS. Finally, the Federal Government in 2023 Poland did not propose any joint controls when it inserted them unilaterally.
Polish border protection has been checking travelers at 52 border crossings since midnight. The center-left government in Warsaw ordered this in response to German border controls. Germany has been checking randomly on the border with Poland since October 2023 to stop irregular migration. Federal Minister of the Interior Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) had more intensive border controls shortly after the new Federal Government started in May. At the same time, he ordered that asylum seekers can be rejected at the border.
“Two controls must be”
The rejections from Germany are a stimulus topic in Poland – also because right -wing activists spread the rumor, German officials transported asylum seekers who have not previously been in Poland.
“We have to cope with the fact that the German side has put a regulation back into force for a few weeks that was exposed to many years. It does not grant the one who apply for international protection at the border and does not refuse to enter without further documents,” said Siemoniak. With this constellation there must be two controls, a German and a Polish one. Other neighboring countries in Germany, which are now confronted with the changed policy of the Federal Government, would also draw conclusions ./dhe/dp/men
