Poland bans broadcasting of four Russian TV channels

TV channels will stop broadcasting: Russia Today, RT Documentary, RTR-Planeta, Soyuz TV, Russia 24. The Polish authorities associated this with ensuring the security and defense of the country.

In Poland, “in connection with the start of hostilities in Ukraine by Russia” banned the broadcasting of several Russian TV channels, informed State Council of Radiophony and Television (KRRiT).

“Taking into account the issues of security and defense capability of Poland, KRRiT decided to exclude the following programs from the “Register of TV channels distributed exclusively in the system of network and distributed programs”: Russia Today, RT Documentary, RTR-Planeta, Soyuz TV, Russia 24,” says in a council message.

Earlier, the National Electronic Media Council of Latvia (NEPLP) banned the rebroadcasting of the Russian TV channels Rossiya and Rossiya 24 for five and four years, respectively, starting from 24 February. Also, the country banned the rebroadcasting of the international version of the TV Center TV channel, which will stop broadcasting for three years. The authorities explained this decision as a “threat to national security” of Latvia.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special operation in the Donbass. According to him, Russia is taking such a step to protect the population from “genocide”, and asked the Ukrainian military to lay down their arms in order to return to their families without hindrance.
