Real estate agent Anne Ramsay talks about her work and life in Spain on the Aki Linnanahde talk show podcast. Ramsay moved to Marbella on Spain’s Costa del Sol a couple of years ago.
The host of the podcast, Aki Linnanahde, has also owned a home in Spain. He knows what kind of environment Ramsay lives in.
– When I know those people in the Aurinkoranniki and the Finnish community in general. It is not as uniform as what is often communicated to the outside world, says Linnanahde.
– All you have to do is go to a Facebook group, and there is constant arguing and twisting, he continues.
Ramsay emphatically sympathizes with Linnahati’s words.
– I’m going to say something really provocative. A Finnish lawyer told me that there are nowhere as many dishonest Finns as on the Aurinkoranniko. I couldn’t agree more, says Ramsay.
He updates that the alignment feels terrible to say, but Ramsay reflects that Finns’ behavior is partly also adaptation to the local style.
– In the country, in the country’s way. The local culture isn’t always the most honest either, so it’s really easy to get involved when you settle down there, he continues.
Linnanahde says that she noticed that there is a special power structure on Spain’s Sunshine Coast, depending on how long someone has lived in the country. Conkers who have spent a long time in the country have a different position of power.
– It gives you a strange position in that community. I also have a lot of special stories and I want to emphasize that there are also a lot of good and good people. This other side is perhaps one that is rarely heard, Linnanahde reflects.
Ramsay tells Linnanahte how it took him a long time to adapt to everyday life in Spain. Even finding my own credit group took time.
– I have never been alone as much in my life as I was during the first year, he says.
Social work and learning new things took energy. My free time was spent gathering strength.
– Then when you start to see those sides of people, that someone always talks bad and someone slanders, you realize that you can’t trust anyone.
According to Ramsay, it took about a year and a half for him to build a thicker skin. At that time, his own protective walls were very high. Now life on the Sun Coast is established and close relationships have been formed.
– Now I feel like I have a wonderful core team. Ironic, but it goes against everything I wanted: everyone is Finnish, he laughs.
Ramsay previously told Iltalehti about his life in Spain. He already stated at that time that integrating into the city was partly difficult.
– It’s easy to find friends with whom to go to a cafe and have fun. Deeper friendships are hard to find, Ramsay said.
However, Finnish friends were happy to travel to Ramsay in Spain. He even liked it so much that he sometimes had to refuse visits to the village, because there were so many visitors.
– I’ve always said that you don’t know how many friends you have until you have an apartment in Spain, Ramsay laughed.
