Un farewell in style, that of Stranger Things 5 volume 3. All the secrets have been revealed, the plots aligned and each character has found their place in the world. Between epic battles and an endless amount of plans to defeat Vecna, Hawkins’ heroes suffer painful losses (although one leaves many hypotheses open). After the half-disappointment of the second part, which received an avalanche of negative criticism, the last chapter proved to be an enthralling adventure worthy of the first seasons. A happy ending very consistent with the sci-fi genre it belongs to and a more marked return to the aesthetics of the Eighties, including music. The ending of the saga is available in streaming on Netflix from 1 January 2026.

Stranger Things 5volume 3: the finale, review, how it ends

With an unexpected ending the Duffer brothers managed to surprise all the fansburned by the disappointment of the second part. Or better: certainly not unpredictable (that there was a happy ending was in the air) but capable of generating sensible answers to the many unsolved questions of the plot. Everything fell into place starting from the defeat of the two-in-one enemies and to the true emotional bond that exists between the courageous protagonists.

The last and eighth chapter of the series, The real world, choose wisely to develop the post-war period more to tell the evolutionary path of the Hawkins boys. Their maturity is not purely age-related but, in the last 45 minutes of the episode, they got really big emotionally.

Despite the annoying army subplots and the inconsistency of Dr. Kay (Linda Hamilton), chosen only as an obvious obstacle and not as a sensible part of the story, each character had their rightful spacedemonstrating that in the series the whole is much more important than the individual. Alone Mike was a happy exception. Far too out of the way in the first episodes of the fifth season, now he finds his rightful place: that of the narrator capable of putting every story back into its right perspective, keeping alive the hope of an ending even better than the original.

In this long journey of heroes, there is even room for empathy towards the enemy, Henry/Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower). A traumatized child who, deceived by his fears, chose to hate humanity until he was engulfed by his own anger. More development of this villain would have been interestingplayed by a truly talented actor. The Duffer brothers chose, instead, to put an end to his character with a literal header. So goodbye to a cult series thatthrough thick and thin, demonstrated how beautiful the value of friendship and the music of the eighties is.
