Red pig At the cinema for April 25: the plot of Hayao Miyazaki’s film
We are in the 1920s, in an imaginary yet recognizable Italy. Marco Pagot is a former ace of military aviation, miraculously survived a mysterious accident during the First World War. Something, however, broke: disillusioned by the horror of the conflict and the winds of the regime that advance, Marco chooses to live as a Reietto. A spell transformed him into an anthropomorphic pig, and he decided to indulge that mutation as a symbolic act of refusal. He leaves the army, retires in self -es who is on the Dalmate coasts and, on board his flaming red seaplane, he reinvented the hunter of sizes that fights the pirates of the air.
But the past and the world do not forget so easily. The skies of the Adriatic become the theater of new challenges, especially when Donald Curtis, a Vanesio and American pilot snap enters the sceneally of pirates and determined to dirty pig. Around this plane duel, two essential female figures move: Gina, widow of a comrade and owner of a hotel for aviatori, who has loved Marco for years in silence; And Fio, a young and brilliant mechanic, who will help him put the plane back on sixth and perhaps also the heart.
The adventure merges with melancholy, romanticism with history, while Miyazaki builds a story as mild in the tones as it is deep in the themes. Nothing is explained – neither the origin of the curse, nor the past of Gina and Marco – yet everything is clear. Red pig It is the portrait of a reluctant hero, who met the abyss and chose to fly alonebut for this reason he stopped hoping or fighting.
