Play-off dream is shattered for Telstar after a sour loss against MVV

Telstar has not been able to grab the last straw for play-offs against MVV. It became 2-1 for the Limburgers in Maastricht. Glynor Plet scored a connection goal in the final phase, but it did not yield any points.

In the context of the death of former chairman Anton van Kooten, Telstar played with mourning bands. The visitors created the first danger. Tom Overtoom tried it from a distance and forced Romain Matthys to make a great save.

However, it was Jarne Steuckers who hit MVV’s first chance: 1-0. The lead was doubled within ten minutes via Ruben van Bommel. Telstar did not give up hope and fought for the last chance for the play-offs. Twice David Min was very close, but it was not easy to finish.

After the break, the White Lions played all or nothing. Attackers Glynor Plet and Cain Seedorf came on for Anwar Bensabouh and Jayden Turfkruier. Just like in the first half, Min created the greatest chances for Telstar and again Mathys was a spoilsport several times.

MVV showed itself on the counter and was Ronald Koeman Jr. important with a brilliant save. Moments later, Christos Giousis had the connection goal twice on his shoe, without success. That success was there for Plet in the final phase. He tapped Giousis’ pass and brought the tension back: 2-1. In the end it did not yield any points, but his goal made him the club’s top scorer in the competition.

The season will close next week with a home game against NAC Breda. Nothing more than sporting honor is at stake. Telstar has seven points less than VVV-Venlo and FC Eindhoven and can no longer reach the play-offs.

Setup Telstar: Koeman; Boussakou, Apau, Aktas, Old Kotte, Turfkruier (Seedorf/46); Bensabouh (Plet/46), Overtoom, Najah; Min (Blommestijn/81), Giousis
