The new plaquette, which was donated in early May by the TV program for a moment to here, replaced the original bronze plaque. Alderman Bob Roelofs reacts shocked: “Incredibly. Don’t people understand what past here?”
War memorial at John Frostbrug Arnhem disappeared, probably stolen: ‘All limits by outside’
According to the alderman, the new plaque was “such a nice gesture from just here, with so much dignity and respect.” But now this plaque has also been destroyed. The image of lieutenant colonel John Frost seems undamaged, but the frame has been removed.
Recovered plaquette
Good news is that the replacement plaque was found on Friday evening, a little further. This is now safe at the city office in Arnhem. The next step is now to investigate the plaque for any damage.
“The image seems undamaged at first sight, but we still have to investigate it well,” said Alderman Roelofs. “How someone got it in mind to remove the artwork from the frame is a mystery to us. That must have happened with a lot of strength.”
The Airborne monument at the John Frostbrug in Arnhem is an impressive war memorial that reminds of the Battle of Arnhem in September 1944.
