Almost 30 years after the third and so far last part of the “Naked Gun” series, a new edition of the slapstick directed by Akiva Schaffer (44, “Hot Rod – Mit Vollgas durch die Hölle” is now planned.

The US director and the Paramount studio wanted to bring the action hero Liam Neeson (70, “Taken”) in front of the camera, the industry portals “Variety” and “Hollywood Reporter” reported on Thursday (local time). Negotiations would go ahead. Comedian Seth MacFarlane is on board as a producer.

In the three films “The Naked Gun” (1988), “The Naked Gun 2½” (1991) and “The Naked Gun 33?” (1994), Leslie Nielsen, who died in 2010, played the prime role of the goofy police officer Frank Drebin. Priscilla Presley also took part. Nothing was initially known about the content of the planned new edition.

A native of Northern Ireland, Neeson (“Schindler’s List”) has recently been subscribed to action roles, such as the “96 Hours” trilogy and films such as “Run All Night”, “Men in Black: International” and “Blacklight”.
