It is said to be a device from package delivery company UPS, but there has been no confirmation of this yet. Data on the plane, obtained by Flightradar24, shows that it was a McDonnell Douglas MD-11F that was en route as flight UPS2976 from Louisville to Honolulu, Hawaii.
Images circulating on social media show a large fire. There is also enormous smoke development in the area. The accident is said to have occurred at 3:10 PM local time.
Emergency services are present en masse and call on people to stay away. The crash happened close to a large industrial estate with several car and truck demolition companies. Major fires were also raging there.
As yet nothing is known about the number of people on board the aircraft and therefore also about the number of victims. Authorities are investigating how this could have happened.
